I’m RoGina Montgomery, a Chicago-based photographer specializing in editorial and documentary work. My practice focuses on capturing life as it unfolds, creating honest, unposed imagery for editorial, corporate, and private clients. Whether on assignment or in the community, I prioritize natural storytelling to produce photographs that serve as an authentic record of a specific time and place.
Published Chicago Photography Work
My photography has appeared in major publications including The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Real Simple, Los Angeles Times, The Hollywood Reporter, Travel Noire, and Sony Alpha. As a Getty Images contributor, my work is licensed for commercial and editorial use worldwide, alongside personal and family photography focused on long-term documentation rather than one-off images.
Photography as Preservation
I treat photography as both art and archive. Whether I am on an editorial assignment, documenting a corporate event, or pursuing a personal project, my work serves a dual purpose: creating compelling imagery while establishing a factual, historical record. I approach every commission with the understanding that photographs outlive us, becoming the enduring visual legacy of how our communities and organizations lived, worked, and evolved.
Community & Service
Beyond my commercial and editorial commissions, service is a foundational element of my practice. I offer senior portraits to high school seniors who otherwise lack access to formal portraits for their year book. I also collaborate with organizations to provide portraits for youth in foster care, creating images for their adoption profiles and personal keepsakes. Additionally, I create handmade cards and creative work for senior living and assisted care facilities. For me, photography is both documentation and advocacy, an act of stewardship centered on people, equitable access, and the community.
Working with Me
I specialize in documentary storytelling for editorial and corporate clients, capturing high-stakes events and human-centered narratives throughout Chicago. I also dedicate time to a limited number of pro bono projects that directly address community needs.
